Book Review: The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think I may have heard a little too much good about this book before reading it, because I felt a little let down. Nevertheless (love that word!), it was a fun and exciting read that kept me turning the pages. It's a young adult novel, but it's one of those that is equally readable by teens and adults. The premise is pretty violent: 24 teens in a futuristic world have to battle each other to the death in a game reminiscent of the gladiator days. I'm actually a big fan of fantasy and science fiction. This fit the bill there. But there were a few graphic parts I had to skim.

The book overall was exciting and well written enough that I plan on reading the new sequel "Catching Fire" when I can get it from the library.
